Colic and Founder Issues in Horses

Purina Enrich Plus Horse Feed | Avoid Colic and FounderBetween green grass and coronavirus, some horse owners may be considering turning their horses out from the stall or dry lot into a fresh green pasture. However, moving horses from an environment of hay and feed to a lush pasture could result in unwanted health issues.  Here are some recommendations on how to avoid colic and founder issues in horses.

Fresh immature grasses are loaded with starch and sugar. The introduction of these grasses can represent a drastic diet change, which can result in unwanted health issues.  Because horses have sensitive systems its important be mindful and slowly transition to pasture grazing. To reduce the risk of colic and founder allow only an hour of grazing time for several days.  Then, increase the grazing time by an hour every few days until the transition is complete. These steps will go along way in helping to avoid colic and founder issues in horses.

Another recommendation is to feed Purina Enrich Plus. This product gives horses that are maintained on pasture or hay alone a nutritional advantage. Enrich Plus is a balancer to forages and provides quality Amino Acids, vitamins, and minerals. Ultimately, it ensures horses receive vital nutrients that are typically deficient in forages. Additionally, Enrich Plus helps horses maintain good body condition on forage alone. This is because it was designed to have a low fed rate 1-2 lb product does not supply extra calories like a traditional feed.
