January Garden Tips 2021

Tara Jurica's Garden in January

January marks the beginning of a new year, as well as a new season in gardening!  Check out our January garden tips and suggestions.
January is optimal for getting your broccoli and cabbage plants in the ground.    January is also a great month to put the many seeds directly into the ground.   Swiss chard, collards, and lettuce are awesome to get started now!  You can also still get a great crop of carrots, beets, English/snap peas, and spinach if you get them in the ground!
You can also make your own baby food out of the vegetables you grow!   It is super easy, too!  Carrots are a great way to start if you are unsure.  Simply peel and chop your carrots, boil them in water until fork tender.   Cool them, process them in a blender or food processor until smooth, and pour into ice cube trays to set.   Once they are set, you can transfer to ziplock bags and store in the freeze.  When you are ready to serve them, take out a cube and heat in the microwave to serve!  It is awesome to serve your babies food you have grown yourself, and it will save you a fortune!
Seed packets are less than $2 and will provide the same amount or more than $50 spent at the grocery store. Head on over to Arcola Feed for your seed packets and more January garden tips! We’re happy to help you get started.
