Happy Grandparents Day!  While Jay and I are not grandparents yet, we are fortunate enough that ALL of our daughter’s grandparents are still with us! If your grandparents are still alive, be sure and give them a call, go visit. Take them out to dinner, or take dinner to them! They would certainly appreciate a visit!

Grandparents Day began in the United States in 1978, when President Jimmy Carter signed a proclamation making it a national observance.

A woman named Marian McQuade from West Virginia is widely credited with leading the effort. She wanted to honor grandparents, strengthen family bonds, and encourage younger generations to learn from older adults. Her campaign gained support through the 1970s and eventually became a national day.

In the U.S., National Grandparents Day is celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day.

The purpose of the day is to:

• honor grandparents
• recognize their love, wisdom, and guidance
• encourage grandchildren to connect with older generations
