March Gardening Tips: Time for Spring Gardens

March Gardening Tips: Time for Spring GardensMarch Gardening Tips: Time for Spring Gardens! March is such a fun month if you have a garden! Warmer weathers and spring showers, lets us know it is time to start planting. While the temperatures start to rise, it is still very important to keep an eye out for the late frost that tends to occur.

What to Plant:

Weeding and watering are also very important. This is especially true during the first 30-40 days of growth when plants are putting down roots. For this time of year, beans, cucumbers, cantaloupes, eggplants and even potatoes can be planted. If you’re using transplants, they should be watered in their pots before transplanting and watered again after planting.

Another common issue is the strong spring winds that can hurt your plants, so always keep an eye out for the more severe springtime weather that comes with the warmer temps. Plant seeds of peas and greens early in the month, bush and pole beans and cucumbers later in the month. Eggplants should go in the garden as transplants so that flowering and fruit set can occur before temperatures get too hot.

Also now that we are past our historical last freeze date of February 16th, you should be able to put out your Bermuda grass seed to green up your lawn, and get your transplants in the ground!
