Rye Grass Tips

rye grass in a Texas pasture

Rye Grass Tips: Strangely enough, December is the ONLY month on the calendar from Texas Agrilife Extension that doesn’t have a “ideal planting time” for ANYTHING!

It is however a great time to work on successive plantings of root crops and your cauliflower, broccoli, kale and many other greens. Plant another few feet of carrots, radishes, beets and cabbage so you can prolong your harvest.

Have you looked at your lawn or pasture lately? Is it looking brown and/or dead? Now is the time to throw out winter rye to bring some green back into your landscape. We sell Gulf Annual Rye Grass that will germinate within about 10 days to 2 weeks. It THRIVES in the winter and will in fact die back in early spring when the temperatures start to consistently go over 80 degrees.

Gulf annual winter rye grass is available at Arcola Feed in 50 pound bags. Application rate is approximately 40 pounds per acre. Visit us for more Rye Grass Tips! #howdoesyourgardengrow
