Safe Human Foods for Pets

pet vaccination clinicLooking for safe human foods for pets? With the holidays starting up, there are lots of opportunities for your pets to get into trouble with foods and treats that can make them sick, or worse…But, there are also lots of great human foods out there that are actually really good for them, and that most pets love!

Green beans, fresh or frozen, are a crispy treat that most dogs really enjoy! Canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling is awesome as well! You can even make your own pumpkin flavored dog treats with a minimum amount of ingredients. I make these three to four times a year, keep several days worth in the fridge and freeze the rest.

Did you know that chocolate and members of the allium family (onions and garlic) are actually toxic to dogs? Try giving fresh green veggies like spinach, broccoli and steamed asparagus to see if you pet will eat. Fruits that some dogs and cats may like are apples, bananas, blueberries and cantaloupe. Make sure there are no added salts or sugars. Foods in their raw, natural form are usually best.

Always consult with your veterinarian before offering your pet new treats to get their opinion, even if you think it is safe human foods for pets. In addition, especially if your pet is on a specific diet, or on medications, as these could possibly interact with their diets or prescriptions.
