How does your garden grow? Here is a fall planting guide for zone 9A and 9B.  If you live around Houston, THIS is your zone.

Ready to grow, friends? Fall is one of the best times to garden here in Brazoria County. We’re in Zone 9a and 9b, and our average first freeze lands around December 5th. That gives us plenty of time to plant and enjoy a great harvest.

The good folks at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension put together a handy planting guide, and we want to share the highlights with you.

Plant now through September:

• Tomatoes and beans
• Cucumbers and sweet corn
• Summer squash

These warm-season favorites love the late summer heat, so get them in the ground soon!

Plant in October and November:

• Broccoli, cabbage, and kale
• Lettuce and spinach
• Carrots, beets, radish, and turnips
• Garlic

Onions come a little later. You can start those from seed in November.

These cool-season crops thrive as the weather turns milder. Leafy greens and root veggies will reward you all winter long.

Here’s a tip. Amend your soil now so it’s rich and ready when you plant. Good ground makes all the difference!
